Department of Juvenile Justice - Art Teacher

Hello My Name Is...

Susan Aiello

susanI teach art in Charleston County. My Goal is to use the creative process of art to improve and enhance students’ physical, mental, and emotional well-being. I believe that the creative process helps students to resolve conflicts and problems. I love teaching Art, and helping the students enjoy Art and discover their own unique strengths and talents and creativity.

My art students have won ribbons and awards, The Charleston County Fair Art Contest, Charleston Port Authority Art Contest, Very Special Arts Contests, All Kids can Create Contest(Kennedy Center),James Island County Park Holiday displays, and the Charleston Artist’s Guild Contest, just to name a few. My students have had Art Shows for Charleston County Public Library, and Piccolo Spoleto. My art students have painted the Charleston County Water Buffalo Tank which is used for Charleston County special events. I am the 2013 recipient of the Jody Trott award from the Charleston Artist Guild for excellent teaching of art.

I began teaching in Charleston County in 1971.I have been an art teacher grades 1-12, regular education classroom teacher grades 2nd and 5th, and a special education teacher grades  1-12 . I was the lead teacher at Windwood Farm. I have also taught arts and crafts at various summer camps, day care centers, and federal programs.

The most important accomplishment for me has been my students’ enjoyment of the art process and their sparkle in their eyes when they view their finished project.
